{"id":1125,"date":"2015-04-07T21:53:26","date_gmt":"2015-04-07T21:53:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/teatropovero.it\/spettacoli-teatro-povero\/il-paese-dei-balocchi-2\/"},"modified":"2016-05-02T20:50:01","modified_gmt":"2016-05-02T20:50:01","slug":"il-paese-dei-balocchi","status":"publish","type":"season","link":"https:\/\/teatropovero.it\/en\/spettacoli-teatro-povero\/il-paese-dei-balocchi\/","title":{"rendered":"Il paese dei b(a)locchi\u00a0 (Stage-st(r)uck Village)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/teatropovero.it\/_mamawp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/2008.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-464 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/teatropovero.it\/_mamawp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/2008.jpg\" alt=\"2008\" width=\"320\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Teatro Povero had often enjoyed mounting, as a Christmas show, a theatrical version of <em>Pinocchio<\/em>, the classic story by Carlo Collodi.\u00a0 Throughout that tale, the wooden puppet Pinocchio, through a long series of mistakes and false starts, is trying desperately to become a real human being.\u00a0 The village of Monticchiello, like other small centres in Italy, wanted to be given the chance by politicians and bureaucrats to become an economically viable community, with proper services.\u00a0 The premise of this year\u2019s show was that Pinocchio\u2019s desires and frustrations could symbolize those of Monticchiello.\u00a0 <em>Balocchi<\/em> (toys, games, pastimes, even theatre itself) were assimilated with <em>blocchi<\/em> (blocks, obstacles, inability to move).\u00a0 Moreover, a recent change of government in Italy, the consolidation into power of Silvio Berlusconi, was viewed with ironic scepticism.<\/p>\n<p>The invented situation was that Monticchiello was to benefit from a governmental project for the economic revival of small villages.\u00a0 An exhibition was planned, involving a collection of artefacts from the peasant past, including models of Pinocchio.\u00a0 But the village band found themselves \u2018blocked\u2019, mysteriously unable to perform a single note for the opening ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition turned out to be incompetent.\u00a0\u00a0 The visiting officials showed bad faith, and one of them even smashed the Pinocchio model.\u00a0 The much-anticipated arrival of a Great Personality, who was never named, failed to materialize.\u00a0 The world and characters of <em>Pinocchio<\/em> increasingly took over the stage, and was re-written to offer close parallels with the injustice and corruption attributed to the current Italian political system.\u00a0 Was Pinocchio\u2019s desire to become \u2018a real human being\u2019 really such a good idea, in the light of the examples of \u2018humanity\u2019 which were now being shown?<\/p>\n<p>In a fantasy ending, the visiting officials were tidied away.\u00a0 The Pinocchio toy was repaired; village was seen to re-acquire support and identity from the persistence of its memories and peasant traditions.\u00a0 It also re-acquired its voice: the band was suddenly able to play again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":464,"template":"","class_list":["post-1125","season","type-season","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category_season-autodramma-en","category_season-show"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
