{"id":1132,"date":"2015-04-07T20:59:17","date_gmt":"2015-04-07T20:59:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/teatropovero.it\/spettacoli-teatro-povero\/tepopotratos-museum-2\/"},"modified":"2016-05-02T20:44:54","modified_gmt":"2016-05-02T20:44:54","slug":"tepopotratos-museum","status":"publish","type":"season","link":"https:\/\/teatropovero.it\/en\/spettacoli-teatro-povero\/tepopotratos-museum\/","title":{"rendered":"TEPOPOTRATOS Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/teatropovero.it\/_mamawp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/2002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-434 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/teatropovero.it\/_mamawp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/2002.jpg\" alt=\"2002\" width=\"221\" height=\"432\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The death of Rino Grappi in 2002 left the Teatro Povero in a state of shock, and it was impossible to write an <em>autodramma<\/em> for that year without making some explicit reference to his passing.\u00a0 This accentuated an increasing tendency towards collective self-analysis\u2014the company had begun to reflect about its own practices, and about the effect which its obstinate attachment to the past might be having on the wider community.<\/p>\n<p>Such questions were especially relevant because Monticchiello was also inaugurating, after a gestation period of many years, its \u2018TEPOTRATOS Museum\u2019: the acronym stands for \u2018Traditional Tuscan Popular Theatre\u2019.\u00a0 Not for the first time, the <em>autodramma<\/em> script asked whether the Teatro Povero was turning the whole village into a kind of museum; but also whether such a very small community could survive in any other form.\u00a0 Some of these questions were posed by enacting a hostile press conference about the museum, its format, and its relationship to theatre activity.<\/p>\n<p>The result was a multi-layered script, in which debates about the danger of being \u2018museified\u2019 mingled with wider questions about how (or whether) to build new property in the village and thus open it to newcomers who might be \u2018invaders\u2019.\u00a0 (An allusion to the siege of 1553, which had been the subject of the very first <em>autodramma<\/em> in 1967.)\u00a0 The show ended with a mock battle, with a ballad, and with a suggestion that theatre represented both Monticchiello\u2019s identity and its chances of economic survival.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":434,"template":"","class_list":["post-1132","season","type-season","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category_season-autodramma-en","category_season-show"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
