(Misuse of Property \/ MONADS)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/teatropovero.it\/_mamawp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/2001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-430 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/teatropovero.it\/_mamawp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/2001.jpg\" alt=\"2001\" width=\"206\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>An untranslatable title, for 2001.\u00a0 The <em>podere<\/em> is a basic element in Tuscan landscape and history: it is the farmhouse, the economic and social family unit in the old sharecropping system.\u00a0 It also echoes the word <em>potere<\/em>, meaning power.\u00a0 Is power now being \u2018abused\u2019 in the new economy, leading to an equal \u2018misuse\u2019 of <em>podere<\/em> buildings?\u00a0 The word \u2018monads\u2019 is threaded into the title phrase: according to one Italian definition of the word, it designates individuals who live in a unique manner without reference to other people\u2019s norms and habits.<\/p>\n<p>In fact the second half of this <em>autodramma<\/em> showed an obstinate family of old people who insisted on living in their isolated <em>podere<\/em> building. \u00a0They rejected modern life for themselves, but were prepared to exploit romantic-minded tourists who wanted to hire their property as a venue for social occasions.\u00a0 As well as making their own children anxious, the \u2018monads\u2019 were shown as being inconvenient to a small community\u2014Monticchiello?\u2014which was seeking a way out of its isolation and economic difficulties.\u00a0 The project was to mount a game of chance, in which the prize would be the right to spend relaxation time in an old-style <em>podere<\/em>.\u00a0 The best farmhouse to use was the one in which the family chose to maintain their anachronistic existence; and great efforts were made to make them change their minds and move out.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever the rights and wrongs of the arguments, the emotional core of this <em>autodramma<\/em> was an evocation of the countryside and of peasant civilization, as places and values which cannot be eradicated from the mind of those who have known them.\u00a0 Great force was given to this sequence of speeches by the dominant presence of Rino Grappi, who for years had been the stage incarnation of the peasant patriarch, or <em>capoccia<\/em>.\u00a0 Sadly, this turned out to be his last appearance for the Teatro Povero.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.71429; font-size: 1rem;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":430,"template":"","class_list":["post-1133","season","type-season","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category_season-autodramma-en","category_season-show"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>ManON\u00e8AbusoDIpodere?!
