{"id":1146,"date":"2015-04-07T20:18:19","date_gmt":"2015-04-07T20:18:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/teatropovero.it\/spettacoli-teatro-povero\/cavalieri-della-non-rotella-2\/"},"modified":"2016-05-02T20:37:23","modified_gmt":"2016-05-02T20:37:23","slug":"cavalieri-della-non-rotella","status":"publish","type":"season","link":"https:\/\/teatropovero.it\/en\/spettacoli-teatro-povero\/cavalieri-della-non-rotella\/","title":{"rendered":"Cavalieri della non rotella (Knights of the Loose Screw)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/teatropovero.it\/_mamawp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/1989.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-382 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/teatropovero.it\/_mamawp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/1989.jpg\" alt=\"1989\" width=\"279\" height=\"399\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A new Italian law (no. 180) on the treatment of people with mental illnesses had led to the establishment in Monticchiello of a new hostel, in which patients could be helped out of the restrictions of psychiatric asylums and into modern life.\u00a0 This prompted an <em>autodramma<\/em> on the theme of \u2018diversity\u2019 of how we react to people whom we perceive as different from ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>As so often, the theme was treated from two different points of view, that of the sharecropping peasant in the past, and one belonging to contemporary society.\u00a0 The first act (based on the family memories of some of the actors) showed a peasant family who had to cope with its own \u2018oddball\u2019 member, almost the equivalent of a \u2018village idiot\u2019; but one who was capable of perceiving and expressing some uncomfortable truths.<\/p>\n<p>The second act was set in modern times, perhaps even in the near future.\u00a0 The Monticchiellesi were shown rehearsing and performing something which they had dramatized before: the \u2018Battle of Monticchiello\u2019 in 1944 between Italian partisans and Italian fascists.\u00a0 This was watched by some patients from the \u2018half-way\u2019 hostel down the hill, some of them played by actors and some by the patients themselves.\u00a0 At a certain point, the patients invaded the stage, and gave their own reaction to the conflicts and violence which were being represented in the play within the play.<\/p>\n<p>The team of Teatro Povero dramatists\u2014Andrea Cresti, Marco Del Ciondolo, Maria Rosa Ceselin and Vittorio Innocenti\u2014made careful use in preparing their script of interviews actually conducted with psychiatric patients by doctors.\u00a0 They collaborated with a local psychiatrist, Vieri Marzi\u2014an encounter from which both sides felt they had benefited.\u00a0 Relations between the psychiatric home and the Teatro Povero then continued to be close and warm for many years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":382,"template":"","class_list":["post-1146","season","type-season","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category_season-autodramma-en","category_season-show"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
