Taverna di Bronzone

Since its first performance in the square, in the summer of 1967, the Teatro Povero di Monticchiello opened a temporary restaurant in which to welcome its public for dinner. Thus it was decided to open the Taverna di Bronzone: Bronzone was a comic character of the first summer show, Monticchiello’s heroine.

The character also gave the spirit to his Tavern: Bronzone is a man of the people, of strong ways and solid values; in the same way, the dishes of his Taverna would have been popular and frank, preserving the solid pride of the traditional Val d’Orcia cuisine.
With pride, therefore, we began to bring to the table the most characteristic handmade pasta of these lands: the pici. Ragù, aglione (the sauce flavored with the slight aroma of this typical local dish), cacio e pepe … But of course also valdorciana tripe, cacciatore rabbit, tomato soup, chickpea soup and much more, all cooked according to traditional recipes and with selected local products.

The Taverna, housed in the evocative crypt overlooking the central square of the village, is managed directly by the Teatro Povero, which takes care of opening for lunch and dinner on the occasion of festivities and during the period in which the summer show is staged.
The Taverna can also be rented for events: weddings, baptisms, parties … And it is always happy to welcome those who pass by here, looking for a good place to stop and eat and drink a frank glass of wine.
